  • Federal Unemployment Tax Rate Still Effective - Scheduled rate decrease from 6.2% to 6.0% occurred after June 30, 2011.  Generally, you can take a credit against your FUTA tax for amounts paid into state unemployment funds.  The credit may be as much as 5.4% of FUTA taxable wages.  Therefore, if you are entitled to the full credit, the FUTA tax rate after credit is 0.6% after June 30, 2011.  There is no current legislation to revert to the prior rate amount; however, be aware that retroactive extension of the surtax is still possible.
